About Strong Wood Studio

Strong Wood is the wood-centric art studio of Sara Strong. While growing up in the foothills of Los Angeles she was surrounded by wood working. Both her father and grand father were master carpenters. At the grand old age of two she was already following her dad around the job site wearing his tool belt and nailing pieces of scrap wood together. Her grand father was a boat builder and cabinet maker from Finland. Sara loved to sit in his shop, watch football on his tiny black and white television and watch him work magic with wood. He always took time to explain the processes of good craftsmanship and to teach all he knew about the job he loved. Sara followed a digital art path after college but always dreamed of someday starting her own wood working studio. STRONG WOOD STUDIO is the culmination of that dream. She is dedicated to following in the footsteps of the masters that went before her. She works diligently everyday to make them proud.

About Strong Wood Studio

Woodworking has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

Some of my earliest memories are of sitting at the feet of my Finnish grandfather, a gifted boat builder and furniture maker. He had an incredible ability to transform rough lumber into something beautiful, functional, and built to last. As a little girl, I watched more than I worked, but those quiet hours in his shop taught me lessons that have stayed with me for a lifetime: craftsmanship matters, details matter, and the things we build should outlive us.

I was equally fortunate to grow up alongside my dad, a lifelong carpenter whose work ethic shaped who I am today. Instead of daycare, many of my childhood days were spent wandering construction sites, watching homes, businesses, and dreams take shape one board at a time. My dad later became the lead carpenter who brought Toontown at Disneyland to life, including its iconic clock tower. I remember hearing stories about the wildly imaginative blueprints and the challenge of turning fantasy into reality. Watching him solve problems with creativity, precision, and determination left a lasting impression on me.

Although woodworking has always been part of my story, it eventually became my passion.

Today, I design and build custom furniture inspired by clean lines, natural materials, and timeless craftsmanship. Every piece is thoughtfully designed to become part of someone's everyday life—whether it's a dining table where family gathers, a coffee table at the center of countless conversations, or a handcrafted heirloom that will be passed down for generations. I believe furniture should be both beautiful and deeply functional, created with intention and built to last.

But if you ask me what brings me the most joy, it isn't just building furniture.

It's teaching.

Strong Wood Studio was born from a desire to share the confidence and creativity that woodworking has given me. I've discovered that many women have spent a lifetime believing power tools weren't meant for them or that woodworking was someone else's hobby. I love watching that belief disappear.

There's something incredible that happens in every class. Nervousness turns into confidence. Hesitation becomes excitement. Women who have never picked up a drill or touched a table saw leave with not only a beautiful project they built themselves, but with the confidence to tackle projects they once thought were impossible.

My mission is simple: to create a welcoming, encouraging space where anyone—especially women—can discover the joy of making something with their own hands. Because woodworking isn't just about building furniture.

It's about building confidence.

Whether I'm creating a custom piece for your home or teaching your very first woodworking class, my hope is the same: that what we create together will become part of your story for years to come.
